PELVIC FLOOR
Pelvic floor dysfunction is a common problem in women. Anteriorly, urinary incontinence is a common condition; medially, vaginal prolapse occur frequently while posteriorly, rectocele or rectal prolapse can cause difficulty to empty the rectal or anal incontinence in cases of post-obstetrical tear of the anal sphincter. Multidisciplinary team evaluation is mandatory. Uro-gynecologic tests as well as defecography, anal manometry or endo-anal ultrasound are required to assess the patient. Anal sphincter reconstruction (sphincteroplasty) is performed in cases post-obstetrical anal sphincter disruption. Trans-anal or laproscopic abdominal approach are advised for rectocele repair (STARR procedure) or overt rectal prolapse (D’Hoore anterior rectopexy) according to pre-operative work-up.
